The School Mum Edit Launch: A Beautiful Pilates & Brunch Event in Oxfordshire
Pilates, pastries and a Mother’s Day celebration with a group of fabulous mums!
Some mornings are truly unforgettable, and our very first School Mum Edit event in Oxfordshire was exactly that. It started, as most mornings do, with the school run. But instead of heading home to emails and the endless to-do list, we did something different. We created space for ourselves, and we launched The School Mum Edit.
A Hidden Gem in Oxfordshire
Set on the outskirts of Bicester, Heyford Park is one of those places you might not know exists - until you do.
Once a former USA air base, it’s now a quietly growing, modern community centred around a beautiful green, with white townhouse-style homes, The Heyford Hotel, a small Sainsbury’s, a parade of shops - and, as we’ve recently discovered, a gorgeous new Reformer Pilates & Wellness studio, Flow.
If you haven’t been yet, it’s a bit of a hidden gem.
Setting Up
With a few nerves and a lot of excitement, we arrived at Flow Reformer Pilates early to set up. Name cards were placed on each reformer bed with little affirmation cards, something small, but something just for each woman walking in.
The Flow Studio is one of those spaces that instantly feels calm, with soft lighting, a beautiful aesthetic, and thoughtful touches everywhere (hello NEOM diffusers and hand wash).
Mums & Babies
For this first session, we kept things relaxed, and that meant welcoming mums with babies too. Having little Logan and Celine there (both under one) brought the loveliest energy to the room. Flow already offers mum-and-baby classes, so this felt like the perfect introduction, a chance for new mums Beth & Gemma to move, connect and still have their gorgeous babies close.
The Ladies Behind Flow
Flow founders Emma and Georgie kindly popped in to say hello, and we managed to grab a quick photo with our instructor Bex, a rare moment with all the women behind the scenes who had quietly made the morning happen.
The Reformer Pilates Class in Oxfordshire
Our reformer pilates session with Bex was for all levels. We had complete beginners, seasoned reformer devotees, and it worked for everyone. The session reminded us that our bodies can do things, even after a busy week of life. We felt muscles we didn’t know existed and found ourselves in positions we didn’t quite know we could manage.
Bex was an excellent instructor. She is the kind of instructor who gets results. She’ll adjust you if something’s not quite right, making sure you’re properly aligned, and while she’s definitely a no-nonsense kind of instructor in the moment, you leave feeling stronger, worked (in a good way), and quietly quite pleased with yourself.
And Then…Brunch
Afterwards, we wandered over to Baton at The Heyford - light-filled, modern. We had our own private pod, already warm and cosy when we arrived (always appreciated).
On the table, we had pre-laid out a few gifts for our members: Flowers, handwritten thank you notes, fresh fruit, pastries, coffee and smoothies. Plus a little collagen sample (thank you, Emma!) for anyone feeling curious.
We’d also put together an uplifting Mother’s Day playlist - a little Bridget Jones soundtrack, some Motown, and a few of the classics we all love. Think a touch of Beyoncé, a bit of Kylie … something fun and familiar in the background to set the mood.
But if we’re honest, it wasn’t the Pilates or the setting or even the playlist (although we love it!) or the pastries (which were very good!)….It was the women. Some knew each other, some didn’t, but within minutes, it didn’t matter.
Thank You
The morning included a bit of movement and a chance to sit down, have a coffee and talk to other women who just get it. There was a little rain at the end - but it didn’t dampen our spirits and chance to prioritise ourselves, just for one morning.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the morning what it was. To Flow Reformer Pilates, for the most beautiful space and such a warm, welcoming environment. For all the little touches (that we noticed). To Baton at The Heyford, for hosting us so thoughtfully and creating a space we didn’t want to leave and such a delicious spread.
To Bex, for a brilliant class that worked for everyone. And to our photographer, Mel, who was incredible - quietly capturing everything in the background, stepping in to help wherever needed and creating the most beautiful photos and reels without ever making it feel staged.
And most importantly, to the fabulous women who came and supported us…You made it!
How to Get Involved
This is only the beginning! We’re already planning some more fantastic events for next term:
More Pilates and brunch mornings
A term-time reformer programme designed around school life
Plenty more ways to meet, move and connect
In many ways, we hope The School Mum Edit becomes something simple: a little bit like Soho Farmhouse … but for school mums. No pressure, no expectations, just beautiful venues, thoughtful touches, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. Somewhere you can turn up, feel comfortable and, most importantly, prioritise yourself for a little while. Find out more about our events in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire.
Book onto Our Next Programme
If you’d like to come along to our next reformer Pilates event, we’d love to have you. You are most welcome to come on your own or come with a friend.
Join us on our term-time reformer programme for school mums, suitable for complete beginners through to experienced clients. A progressive, results-focused programme designed around the school timetable, finishing with a jump board finale set to the best music - a little Pilates party to celebrate the end. You’ll be made very welcome.
